Storelocal Storage Proudly Supports Hillyard Built: Investing in Spokane's Youth
At Storelocal Storage on Francis Avenue, we believe that great communities are built by the people in them — and sometimes, the best thing we can do is make a little room. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Hillyard Built, a Spokane-based nonprofit that is doing incredible work for the youth of the Hillyard neighborhood.
We recently donated a free storage unit to Hillyard Built, and they were kind enough to shout us out on their Facebook page — a small gesture that means the world to us, because it reflects a shared commitment to our community.
Who Is Hillyard Built?
Hillyard Built is a community-based nonprofit with a bold, clear mission:
“Hillyard Built is a community based non-profit dedicated to breaking the stigma that ‘success does not come out of Hillyard.’ Our organization’s work is aimed around assisting in-need Hillyard youth with resources to participate in programs that would promote the overall goal of skill development, inclusion, and improved self-esteem.”
In simple terms? They’re changing the narrative about Hillyard — one young person at a time.
What They Do
A Safe Space for Teens
One of Hillyard Built’s most impactful efforts is their storefront — a welcoming space where teenagers can hang out, connect, and get off the streets. It’s a place that says: you belong here, and we believe in you.
Funding Futures Through Merchandise
Hillyard Built sells branded t-shirts and merchandise, and every dollar from those sales goes directly back into the community. As they put it:
“Children should not miss out on enriching experiences because they lack the monetary means. Every child should be given equal opportunities to participate and thrive in any program made available. Hillyard Built’s goal is to pour proceeds from t-shirt sales back into our Hillyard community to financially assist in-need youth.”
Their screen printing is even done locally by Greenburo Screen Printing & Embroidery on N. Market Street — keeping it genuinely, authentically Hillyard Built.
Scholarships and Resources
Through their scholarship program, Hillyard Built helps youth access programs they otherwise couldn’t afford — whether that’s sports, arts, education, or personal development opportunities. They’re not just handing out money; they’re handing out a chance.
Pirate Ambassadors Program
Hillyard Built also runs a Pirate Ambassadors program, engaging youth as representatives and role models in their own community — building leadership from the inside out.
Why This Partnership Matters to Us
At Storelocal Storage, we’re more than a place to keep your stuff. We’re part of the fabric of Spokane, and we take that responsibility seriously. When we learned about the work Hillyard Built is doing — creating safe spaces, funding youth programs, and fighting the stigma that limits what Hillyard kids believe they can achieve — we wanted to help in the most direct way we could.
Providing a free storage unit is a small thing on our end. But for an organization running lean and putting every resource toward their community, having a reliable, secure space to store supplies, merchandise, and materials makes a real difference.
